This thread has been very helpful. I am going to build a low amperage version and would have made the mistake of connecting the proximity wires with no modifications. Thanks for the information.

As you may know I returned my RAV4EV to Toyota and recently acquired a Volt, so both of my cars have puny charging systems. I do like to convenience charge these cars at the free EVSE's in my little beach town and sometimes those parking spots are full but the cars occupying those spots have finished charging. I could use one of those extension cords so I can charge from one of the adjacent spaces. I have the J1772 receptacle from my VW conversion and found an inexpensive J1772 plug with a 20 foot 12 Amp rated cord for a reasonable price. I am going to connect them through a 4x4 junction box. While I have the plug apart to disable the resistor I might look into adding an LED. That is all I need for the moment and I definitely don't want the extra weight of a heavier cord.

Thanks Tony for designing this.

Just to make sure I have it straight, you just remove the 150 ohm resistor from the handle and the 2.7k resistor in the charging port and connect all the wires?

No, there's no modification to the charge port on the car. The 2.7k ohm resistor stays there.

We remove the 150 ohm resistor and use an unique 8 conductor cable built to my specification that passes through the proximity signal.

Here's our new JLongtm inlet handle built of 6061-T6 aluminum alloy, powder coated, and possibly strong enough to drive over.

All products at http://www.QuickChargePower.com now carry a one year limited warranty:

Does the existing single cable not pass through the proximity signal properly?

If you have a 4 conductor cable, it can't pass through the proximity signal. It needs 5, minimum.

Impressive! That is one incredibly heavy duty looking piece of hardware. I like the new price too!
