Hello all. New member introduction here.
After 4 years of driving our VW Eurovan (2001) and paying a lot in gas an repairs (yes the awful reputation is true) the VW died (of timing chain) and my wife really wanted a car (I tried to explain we had enough bicycles... didn't work) I gently steered her away from a Fiat 500 and let her test drive a Rav4EV (I had a lot of electric vehicle experiences from my previous job as a journalist, test driving cars like this Honda http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_EV_Plus back in 1997 or 1998!): She loved the torque and the silent motion! Got a not-too-bad deal from Daly City Toyota after countless hours in pain at dealership.
My 6'6" fits in it the Rav4EV to my surprise and the wife is happy to go surf to Pacifica and back to SF without using a ton of gas (insert surfer eco/green mind here).
All good for now, we are still using 110V at home and charging at public chargepoint when on the road to Carmel. Looking into modifying the cord to accept 220. Will have to look deeper into the threads here to find the answer (TucsonEV I guess?).

Well, this thread looks long dormant, but I'll add a post.

My name is Howard and my wife and I are new owners of a used 2012 Blizzard Pearl Rav4 EV. It's our first electric vehicle and we also own a Prius C.

We were looking at some of the current EVs and even test drove a 2019 Kia Niro EV. It was fun, but didn't have the kind of cargo space that we're looking for. It also had an inventory shortage and $5K dealer markup.

While researching electric vehicles, I had come across the Rav4 EV, but after reading here about the many maintenance issues and lack of service support out of state, we pretty much ruled it out. We decided to settle on a used Prius v (lower case); Toyota of Walnut Creek had one in stock and we were going to visit friends there, so we scheduled a test drive; they also happened to have a used Rav4 EV in stock, so why not test drive that one too? It was pretty obvious which one my both liked, but we decided that it's too bad the Rav4 is hard to get serviced out of state because we plan to move out of California in the future; the Prius v is was a more practical choice, but the one we test drove was priced too high and it was a no haggle price.

The next Saturday, we were on our way to test drive a low mileage 2013 Prius v, when the dealer texted us that they just sold it. We likely would have bought that car, but by chance, we happened to find a used Rav4 EV with lower miles than the one in Walnut Creek and was also lower priced. It recently had the traction motor replaced and it seems like the overall experience with the new motors are positive. So we drove 400+ miles to SoCal, checked out the car, decided we liked it and it looked to be in good working condition. It has a JdeMO, so it took us "only 13" hours to drive back up the 99/580 to home.

We're gambling that it's going to be a reliable vehicle for us, but it's a gamble we're comfortable with. We also have an extended warranty on the Rav4, so if anything does fail, hopefully it will be before we move out of state. We've now driven it 1K miles and have set up an OpenEVSE for level 2 charging. So far, we're very happy with our purchase.

Welcome to the very limited club. With less than 2500 total cars remaining in the world, and quite literally hundreds of them shipped overseas to primarily Norway, but also Ukraine, Poland, Czech Republic, UK, Denmark, Canada, etc, and people regularly destroying them, the value of your car is going up!
