I came across this cool website documenting the BMW electronauts and their on-going progress.

http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/content/innovations/bmwi/bmwi.aspx#electronauts_range

summary here

I wish Toyota would do something like this for the RAV4EV community. I would like to see our collective average miles per day, most miles driven in one day, average time spent charging, average number of charges per day, average charge remaining, number of extended charges to standard charges ratio, savings to date (fuel and $), cost to travel 100 miles, etc.

I suspect that would mean that they are "promoting" EV's, and publically Toyota is not.

Very cool. I wish we could collect that sort of data.

Since Toyota won't collect and share the data like BMW does at
http://electronaut.bmwactivatethefuture.com/login

I'll share my data as a single data point using the same format.

Total Miles Driven: 5k
Average miles driven per day: 67.6
Average speed: 32 mph
Longest single charge range: 124 miles
Most miles driven in one day: 140
Average charge remaining: ~40%
Average charges per day: 1
Average time spent charging using 240VAC/30A EVSE: 3.3 hours
Average kWh consumed during charging: 25.5 kWh
$ saved to date ($ not spent on gas vs. $ spent on electricity): $728-$214 = $514
$ saved per month: ~$200
Cost per 100 miles (gas vs. electric): $14.56 for gas model, $4.27 for electric model
Gallons of gas not used: 217
Trips to gas station not taken: 13
% of charges using Standard Charge: 65%
% of charges using Extended Charge: 35%
or put another way: ratio of standard charge vs extended charge use: 2 to 1
Average miles driven per month: 2k

Average Prices in Austin, Texas: Gas $3.35/gallon; Electricity $0.114/kWh
Comparison against 2012 RAV4 V6 model assuming 23 mpg average.

Great data, thanks for sharing. This is exactly the sort of data I'd like to collect but don't yet have a method for collecting the kwh data. Do you have a separate meter for your car charger? I've had my car for one month and only charged at home once (and don't have a separate meter anyway). The charger I use at work is a ClipperCreek, doesn't report kwh delivered like the ChargePoint stations do...

Yes, I have a monitor on my EVSE from Enerati (www.enerati.com). I'm not too impressed because it just senses current and assumes line voltage. Luckily they offer an "adjustment" value one can program to make it more accurate. If I had to do it again, I might have purchased one from Efergy instead (www.efergy.us), but the Enerati system seems "good enough" for now.

As for the Clipper Creek systems, I thought they had a speaker inside which verbally tells you the amount of energy you have consumed. Are you sure your's doesn't have this feature?

I guess I was thinking that the new Clipper Creek units were like the older EVI ICS-200 units that had it.

"The ICS-200’s unique voice announcer puts the user at ease with its no hassle, trouble-free operation. There is no need to read directions, … it tells you automatically."

Perhaps they dropped that feature.

Just spoke with the folks at ClipperCreek. They said that back in the 90's the company (different name, Electric Vehicle Infrastructure but same owners) made units that looked the same or very similar to the products they make now. As you said the charge stations actually talked to you when you unplugged and would report time and how many kwh you had charged. Unfortunately the models out there now don't do that. Would have been nice if that was continued!

Interesting. I was unaware that BMW was doing this. Thanks!

For Volts, there is http://www.voltstats.net/, but this isn't anything official from GM. The guy behind it is using Onstar's Partner API to get the info.

Have you calculated your miles per kwh based on the data you get from your meter? And does it differ from Entunes? I'm curious how accurate the Entunes estimate is....

Entunes tracks miles per kWh (DC) from the battery.
My home devices monitors AC kWh from the wall.

If I drive 100 miles, Entunes may show 3.1 miles/kwh. This means that I consumed (100/3.1=) 32.25 kWh (DC) from the battery pack. However, my meter shows that I recharged it with 37.94 kWh (AC) from the wall. The difference is the efficiency of the charger and cells themselves.

So the efficiency of my car is ~379 Wh/mile from the socket (and ~322 Wh/mile from the battery, what Entunes tracks).

I don't bother with Entunes mi/kwh tracking too much since AC kWh is what I really care about.

Exactly, that's the data I'm after. Thanks. Perhaps as an estimate of the real value I could make an adjustment based on your comparison.
