TOYOTA MODIFICATION AT 5,000 MILE CHECK

Toyota did a 5,000 mile update on my RAV4 EV, car production #42. They put a sticker on the inside of the hood. Does anyone understand what the upgrade may be (see the attached photo). The modifications number is 89881-0R011 - 1.3.57 Change Authority: TSB # 0050-13

Some Googling for what I read the 1st number to be turns up http://www.toyotapartszone.com/oem/toyota~computer~ev~gateway~89881-0R011.html.

I'm sure you've seen the other posts about gateway ECUs being replaced...

Had you experienced any problems?

For those who got their gateway ECUs replaced, I am curious if their receipts showed any before and after part numbers.

I received a standard notice from Toyota that I could bring in my RAV4 EV for a free tire rotation, fluid level inspection and oil change (Toyota has no electric car service notices) at DCH Toyota of Torrance. I dropped it off in the morning and in the afternoon they called and said it was ready to pick up. They made no mention of replacing the computer or any software upgrade and nothing appeared on the work order. I had no problems with the car before or after, it’s been working perfectly. The indication any thing was done to my car was finding the “AUTHORIZED MODIFICATION” sticker way up near the windshield wipers on the hood. It was when cleaning the underside of the hood (I always clean the engine compartment when I wash any of my cars) that I found the sticker. It was put in a place where you couldn’t easily see it. The only thing I can think of is that it maybe quicker and easier to exchange the computer than to download it or install a software upgrade.

That's weird that it seems the sticker appeared and they did the work w/o telling you or putting it on the receipt. (If I read your post correctly.)

I have had recall work done w/o them asking me before. I'd brought in my Prius for maintenance one time after the fact, they told me they trimmed the bottom of the accelerator pedal. It was part of the whole SUA (PR fiasco) recalls, to help prevent pedal entrapment.

Is it also mentioned if you check your car at http://www.toyota.com/owners/? IIRC, you need to register and enter your VIN.

I finally got on to the Toyota owners web page and it listed what was done at the 5,000 mile service. It appears to be a software update.

I just had to laugh at "synthetic vehicle service". I know Toyota has moved over to synthetic oil for most/all (?) of their currently selling ICEVs. I kinda wonder what's up w/including that for a BEV.

Hopefully someone has access to the content of the TSB and can post it. I don't know of an equivalent of http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/Knowledgebase/links/160#.UcoPdtj-N8E. That site has the PDFs of Nissan's TSBs. One can downloaded 2/day, w/a free account.

From some Googling, it looks like 1.3.57 was mentioned at http://www.myrav4ev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=4055 and http://www.myrav4ev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2558#p2558.

Thats what I was thinking... the 1.3.57 looked to me like a software or firmware revision.

the TSB 0050-13 is a charge timer improvement, I believe they flash the computer.
