There are strong believable rumors that Tesla will produce a CHAdeMO adapter for the Model S by the end of 2013. This will have to be an active device to bridge the communications protocols, but still technically straight forward. IMHO, this is something that Tesla needs to do in order to properly support customers.

Yes, but so far, they seem to be following the "party line" that CHAdeMO is "those guys in Japan" and the rest of the world is the SAE compliant model. The fact that by the end of 2013 there are going to be hundreds of CHAdeMO's in the important EV west coast states of Washington, Oregon, and California and exactly zero public Frankenplugs doesn't bode well for that thought process.
