Since I have a 2nd mortgage that's about to close, I can't open up a new lease right now. So I am anxiously awaiting the new deal tomorrow.

Northern California now has a higher lease incentive than Southern California. $18,050 Toyota Lease Bonus Cash.

Nor_Cal_Lease_Offer2014_10.jpg

This is the first time I have ever seen the Northern California incentive higher than Southern California. Dianne says she is still at $17,500. In the past, the incentive for SoCal has either been equal to or higher than NorCal. Is it possible this is a product of her success? Who knows...

How do you like your MB B-Class ED? What options did you get? I'm getting one for my wife. It should be built in 2 weeks and I should get it sometime in December.

Other than the range issue were experiencing (~70 miles per charge), we love everything about it. We've never owned a luxury model before, and am impressed, especially with the service. The deal was great too.

Aug 28, 2014: Production has ended of the Rav4 EV after almost 2600 were produced. As of now, there are about 200 hundred on the ground at dealers, and that's it.

97 sold in Oct 2014, 2353 total sales.

Total production: 2538

Serial numbers 1001 - 3538

There probably will be a few here and there until Jan 1, 2015.

As of Oct 31, 2014, 185 total remain to be sold.

************

This is why Toyota sold exactly one Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) with no options except three colors and floor mats (all cars got the "optional" floor mats).

Read this tutorial:

http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/zevprog/factsheets/zev_tutorial.pdf

It will answer lots of questions. In a nutshell, if Toyota makes 0.79% of it production with ZEV's "credits", that is one part of the overall compliance with California Air Resources Board (CARB) rules.

900,000 cars sold in California by Toyota for three model years, 2012-2014, multiplied by 0.79% equals 7110 credits for CARB-ZEV that need to be earned, and each Rav4 EV is 3 credits IF THE CAR IS SOLD IN CALIFORNIA.

So, 7110 divided by 3 = 2370 minimum ZEV cars over all three model years, 2012-2014. Toyota built about 2600, however a number of those were sold out-of-state until Toyota stopped that in October 2013.

For model year 2015 and beyond, Toyota will use a hydrogen car for CARB-ZEV compliance at 9 credits per car. That means they only have to sell 790 cars over the three model years, 2015-2017. That's only 263 cars per year.

Also, after 2017, when other manufacturers are required to sell in all CARB-ZEV states, auto manufacturers like Toyota, Honda and Hyundai are allowed to sell only in California, as hydrogen is exempt from the "Traveling Provision".

CARB-ZEV - California’s ZEV program has now been adopted by the states of Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island and Vermont. These states, known as the “Section 177 states,” have chosen to adopt California's air quality standards in lieu of federal requirements as authorized under Section 177 of the federal Clean Air Act. Additionally, California’s GHG standards are now federal law. Maine and New Jersey are participating with ZEV initiatives, but are not signatory CARB-ZEV states.

After selling only 28 cars in December 2013 and only 68 in January 2014 with a $14k lease incentive, Toyota is back to blowing them out with huge $17,500 incentives and unlimited miles in California ONLY through Dec 1, 2014

Check out Dianne's deals at Carson Toyota:

Last update Nov 6, 2014. 2pm

Dianne's EV deals!
I now have just 10 EVs HERE.
The last one will probably be sold in very early November. For Good. Forever.

What I have left:

4 Pearl white
6 Silver

If these #'s change it upwards (as they have recently), will ONLY be because I managed to gather an extra somehow from another dealer, but I also incur extra shipping charges when I do that...

And, here's the special!
My deal goes thru Dec 1st. Or till I'm sold out.

I have all three color choices, and all three choices are the same pricing thru 11/3. I'll probably be sold out by then though... or close to it.

There's $17,500 lease cash thru Dec 1.

I have a 10K lease for as low as $382-399 + tax with none of *your own* cash out of pocket (you'd front the state's 2500), and that same lease plan is about $45 more a month for UNLIMITED miles. The payments vary pretty wildly due to the sales tax varying on all that cap reduction, but it is best to call me direct at 949-689-0717 to get specifics for YOUR personal terms for your location! I am also cross-posting this to the EV Facebook page...

Unlimited mileage leases with absolutely ZERO out of your pocket, with you personally pocketing the state's $2500 are just $490-505 a month + tax (The payments vary pretty wildly due to the sales tax varying on all that cap reduction) ...

Production ended 8/27-8/28 so this is the last of them ... last few cars to roll off the line!!!

NOTE 1: EXPECT THE DEALER'S FINANCE DEPARTMENT TO HAVE PROBLEMS INPUTTING THE UNLIMITED MILEAGE LEASE IN THEIR COMPUTER. MAKE SURE YOUR LEASE DOCUMENTS ARE PROPER FOR WHEN TOYOTA FINANCIAL REJECTS IT MANY WEEKS LATER. It should show "N/A" twice for miles and rate per mile in section 10 of the lease contract, "Excessive Wear and Use".

http://www.myrav4ev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=8745#p8745

NOTE 2: NEW FOR OCTOBER 2013: Lease bonus cash is only good for cars registered NEW in the state of California. That means you won't be able to lease out-of-state at the reduced prices, because Toyota will not get the 3 California Air Resources Board (CARB) Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) credits unless first registered in California.

NOTE 3: July 2013, the lease discount cash was called "$15,400 TFS Subvention Lease Cash" Yes, you get to pay sales tax on the discount!!!

NOTE 4: January 2014, the new 24 month lease offer does not qualify for the $2500 California state mail-in rebate. The lease must be a minimum of 36 months

NOTE 5: The dealer may try to sell you a low mileage "used" car so that they can claim and keep the government incentives.

NOTE 6: Even if your out-of-state dealer says they will work on your car, read this thread:

http://www.myrav4ev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=11236#p11236

NOTE 7: The state of California is running out of money for the $2500 rebate checks. Right now (April 2014), you can expect a check in September 2014. After April, there may not be anything.

Update on cost comparisons with electric and oil burner Rav4 EV with current lease incentive of $16,500 off. California only, offer good through May 5, 2014. When the last of 2600 are built, they won't make or sell any more:

Since you could easily drive 100,000 miles in 3 years on an unlimited mileage lease, here's that comparison with a $500 per month / zero down lease / unlimited miles. Lease "sales price" is $500 multiplied by 36 months:

-------------- Rav4 EV --- Rav4 EV ---- Rav4 V6 oil burner
--------------- lease ----- purchase ---- purchase

Sales Price- $18,000 --- $51,000 ----$26,000
Fuel cost ---$ 3,000 ---- $ 3,000 -----$18,000
Oil changes ---------------------------- $ 300
Smog Check----------------------------$ 100
Maintenance $1300 ----- $ 1300 -----$ 1900

Subtotals -- $22,300 --- $55,300 --- $46,300
Tax breaks - (2500) ---- (10,000) --- $ 0
Toy. discount - N/A ------ (2,500) ---- $ 0

Interest ----- $ 0 --------- $5,000 ----- $2,500

Residual -----$18,000 -------- N/A -----------N/A

Net costs -- $37,800 --- $47,800 ---- $48,800

Used value - $30,000 ------ $30,000 ----- $12,500

Total cost --- $ 7,800 ------- $17,800 ----$36,300

LEASE DOWN-PAYMENTS:

I never recommend putting any money down an a lease to get a lower monthly lease payment. If the car is "totaled" as you drive it off the dealership's lot, all your down payment was just lost forever.

$7500 federal credit (IRS form 8936) applies to new cars only with purchase only, not on a lease. Toyota did not pass this credit to you on a lease prior to July 2013, but now they have begun offering you the $7500 fed tax credit in the lease. You have to owe the IRS at least $7500 for this taxable year to get the full benefit of $7500 in a purchase. No carry-overs to next year. If you only owe $1234 in federal taxes, you will only get $1234 of the $7500 credit.

$2,500 California state rebate for new cars only. Apply here for the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP) which is funded by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and administered statewide by the California Center for Sustainable Energy (CCSE), 9325 Sky Park Court, #100, San Diego, CA 92123. Your state or province may also have incentives for out of state sales.

http://energycenter.org/programs/clean_vehicle_rebate_project

CAVEAT EMPTOR: known dealer scam is to sell you a "used" car and keep the tax credit. This is what can happen if you fall for the dealer's deception:

http://www.myrav4ev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=8134#p8134

April 2014: the state of California may run out of money in this program after April.

EXTENDED WARRANTY

I personally would not consider an extended warranty on a 36,000 mile lease. Your car will always be within the factory warranty period.

I do not normally buy the extended warranty at a dealer, but instead wait until I'm getting close to the end of the factory warranty period; for the Rav4 EV, that's 3 years / 36,000 miles. This way, you can actually shop for the best price amongst dealers anywhere in the USA.

Don't let the finance salesperson pressure you into a warranty (to increase their profit... called the "back-end" in the business, and that's exactly where you'll get it). If you do buy it, and subsequently cancel, it will take them many weeks or months to refund your money. In addition, they will prorate the months and miles on the car, even though it had a factory warranty concurrent with the extended warranty.

There is absolutely no reason to buy the warranty until you are absolutely sure you will go past the warranty period, and you know you have the best price. Then, it will likely exclude anything that would matter, like the battery!! By the way, the list price on that battery is $36,000.

MODEL YEAR DIFFERENCES

The only differences between a 2012, 2013 and 2014 model years is the the 10th digit from the left of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) has a "C" for 2012, "D" for 2013 and 2014 has an "E". You will find the VIN through the front window, looking from the outside on the driver's side, at the bottom.

The Rav4 EV began sales on Sept 24, 2012 and production completed August 28, 2014. Almost 2600 total were produced.

Here are the sales to date:

http://www.myrav4ev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=418#p418

No, the Rav4 EV won't be extended or continued after 2600 are built.

CALIFORNIA CONTRACT CANCELLATION POLICY

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d05/vc11709_2.htm

California law does not provide for a "cooling-off" or other cancellation period for vehicle lease or purchase contracts. Therefore, you cannot later cancel such a contract simply because you change your mind, decide the vehicle costs too much, or wish you had acquired a different vehicle. After you sign a motor vehicle purchase or lease contract, it may only be canceled with the agreement of the seller or lessor or for legal cause, such as fraud.

************************

USED Rav4 EV 's:

If you buy used, even with almost zero miles on the car, you not only lose the tax credits and rebates, you may also lose the ability to "Lemon Law" the car should it come to that.

***************************

CALIFORNIA SALES TAX (purchase) or USE TAX (lease)

On an "in-state" purchase, you pay the applicable tax for your county/city. For an in state lease, you pay a "use tax" on the monthly payment. For out-of-state, you pay nothing to California with a proper Bill of Laden from a shipping company.

DO NOT TAKE DELIVERY IN CALIFORNIA

...unless you want to pay California taxes!!! You will pay applicable taxes in your out-of-state jurisdiction. There's a whole thread devoted to out-of-state purchases and leases.

**************************

OUT OF STATE SERVICE AND WARRANTY CLAIMS

Just know that an out-of-state dealer may be willing to service your Rav4 EV, but Toyota USA may not pay them for warranty claim reimbursements and the service payments for Toyota Care. Kevin Spillane, Toyota Customer rep for the Rav4EV, has this to say about out-of-state servicing:

1) Toyota Customer Care - the normal 5000 mile interval checkups. Not covered outside of California authorized dealers. Expect any out-of-state-dealer who performs a routine service to your car to be denied payment by Toyota for "Toyota Care". No matter what your out-of-state dealer tells you, it won't be covered under "Toyota Customer Care"

2) Tesla drivetrain problems - Not covered outside of California authorized dealers.

3) Non-EV problems but specific to Rav4 EV - like a failed heater on a "case by case basis" (that means that they can jerk you around if they feel like it). They have an authorized field engineer coming to a local dealer to perform the work. It has nothing to do with the dealer themselves, it's just a place to work on the car.

4) Rav4 issues shared with the oil burning version - covered.

NOTE TO ALL OUT OF STATE BUYERS:

NEW FOR OCTOBER 2013: Lease bonus cash is only good for cars registered NEW in the state of California.

5. Select "off" for "Display Phone Book Transfer Status"

4. Touch “Detailed Bluetooth Settings”
5. Touch the down arrow once
6. Select "off" for "Display Phone Status"
7. Select "off" for "Display Portable Player Status"
8. Touch "Save"

IF YOUR CAR IS DELIVERED WITHOUT FUNCTIONING INTERIOR LIGHTS:

A pin is located in the engine bay passenger side fuse box to activate the lights. Inside that fuse box, there is a white "fuse" without any number and that is the "pin". Under the fuse cover, there is a location labeled "short". Put the "pin" into the "short" slot and interior function like light, garage door opener, external door handle switch will be activated.

***********************************

IF YOUR CAR IS DELIVERED WITH A REGISTRATION FOR AN OIL BURNING CAR INSTEAD OF AN ELECTRIC CAR:

Make sure your dealership ticked the correct box for "motive power" on the registration. If they incorrectly entered "gas", you'll need to get it corrected. In California, the DMV requests that the dealership complete Sections G & H of form "Reg 256". For section G, the sample response given was:

"Due to a clerical error on the Report of Sale, the motive power was entered as "gas (G)", when the actual motive power for this vehicle is "100% electric (E)". Please correct. No fraud intended."

The dealer then signs and dates Section H.

************************************

IF YOUR CAR'S UNLIMITED LEASE IS REJECTED BY TOYOTA FINANCIAL

EXPECT THE DEALER'S FINANCE DEPARTMENT TO HAVE PROBLEMS INPUTTING THE UNLIMITED MILEAGE LEASE IN THEIR COMPUTER. MAKE SURE YOUR LEASE DOCUMENTS ARE PROPERLY REFLECT AN UNLIMITED LEASE FOR WHEN TOYOTA FINANCIAL REJECTS IT MANY WEEKS LATER. It should show "N/A" twice for miles and rate per mile in section 10 of the lease contract, "Excessive Wear and Use".

http://www.myrav4ev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=8745#p8745

************************************

IF YOU WANT YOUR CAR DELIVERED WITH SPECIFIC SETTINGS:

You will likely want your dealer to set the reverse beeper to a single beep. I highly recommend writing this in the sales contract, particularly for an out of state sale. You will not like this distracting beeping in reverse. Also, I recommend setting the auto door locks to whatever setting you want prior to delivery (always unlocked, lock when in Drive, only unlock driver's door, etc).

If you don't want the navigation screen to automatically pop back to the map mode, press the "Home" button below the screen (like on an iPad / iPhone), then press the lower right hand corner symbol for page 2, then press the upper left hand symbol, then scroll down until you see Auto Screen Change, then select OFF.
