Very nice photo op...
I'll make this my screen background today at work. Weather looks outstanding Saturday in Blaine with mid 70's temps and a light southerly wind. From Seattle south, mid 80's with a light northerly.

See you Saturday :)

Congratulations to Tony Williams and all the participants in the Rally. I am hopeful that someone will be taking pictures and maybe a blog? I know you will have enough on your hands. I am hoping to participate next year, so any "preview" would be welcomed! Again WELL DONE!!!

Hi Tony,
3 things:
1. The rally was a great event. Keeping track of the drivers through your posts and others was great. I hadn't heard of Glympse before, next best thing to watching the rally in person. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, or rather preaching to the leader of the choir but the rally was a tremendous feat. Obviously a lot of work.
2. Do you have / will you be sharing any data on number of charges / hours charging etc along the route?
3. Finally, as you are planning next years rally it'd be great if you could include Davis on the route. I know that's a bit out of the way if Santa Rosa is a staging location. But, asides from the fact that I'd like to see you guys come through here, there is lots of interest in EVs in Davis. Way back when, the town owned a fleet of EV1s until GM took them back. There are still several first gen Rav4 EVs riding around and more Leafs than you can shake a stick at.... not to mention all sorts of EVs all over the place. Sacramento news often covers events in Davis including the yearly Tour of California bike race (it always helped to have Lance Armstrong around). More to the point, perhaps the folks at the UC Davis Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicle Research Center would be interested in partnering with you to host an event? They get funding from the state and an event to raise awareness should be an easy sell....

I visited with them after I picked up my Rav4 to chat about their research. Turns out that their program manager has a kid in the same daycare with my son so I see her every day. Of interest, their HQ is in a net zero village that UC Davis is building.

No, I doubt anybody recorded that. It's a big enough challenge just to complete all the other parts of the rally.

I drove slightly over 3500 miles at about 4 miles per kWh equals about 1,000 kWh's pulled from the wall at 85% efficiency.

Only a very small percentage of my charging time was at 240-250 volts at 40 amps. I used lots of RV parks (which typically have some wild voltage issues and weak 50 amp breakers) and Tesla Roadster (Clipper Creek) EVSE's that are 70 amp, but 208 volt.

Only Goleta (Santa Barbara) and Orland Roadster chargers were 240 volt that I used. So, using a 7kW average into 1000 kWh equals 142 hours of charging.

Thanks. I'm planning a camping trip up route 1 next year.... the kids should be old enough by then to manage on a plug in trip. Hopefully I can time it just right to escape the heat.

The third annual BC2BC-2014 "All Electric Vehicle Rally", 1500 miles from Mexico to Canada, is planned for August 10, 2014 - August 17, 2014. The start will be in the Los Angeles, California area, however we will drive south to the Mexico border (but not cross it with a car), then on to Vancouver, BC. Bring your passport for Canada and your A game! Again, we will not be entering Mexico with cars, but we will enter Canada.

We are also planning the World's Largest Electric Vehicle Gathering for Sunday morning, August 10, 2014 at our Los Angeles launch site.

If the finances / sponsors work out, we would like to also host rally teams with sponsor supplied car(s). Those teams would consist of folks from EV manufacturers, EV related industry, and government.

As always, your input on proposed rule changes for 2014, cool ideas, etc, are appreciated. This event is primarily to bring awareness to the general public about EVs, and we are all ambassadors in that endeavor. If you have contacts in media along our route, that is probably the single biggest help we could receive.

Our Stages will be:

Rally End- August 17, 2014 -------------------- Vancouver, British Columbia area start

Total MINIMUM miles - 1592

There will be three classes this year:

Unlimited Class - all other street legal cars, no restrictions to battery size
Motorcycle Class - all street legal bikes, no restrictions to battery size
100 Mile Class - any street legal car EPA rated below 100 miles with stock battery capacity

There will be two routes; one for Unlimited Class, and the other for Motorcycle and 100 Mile Class
