Your summary is good. I don't know why I am the only one got the car into Check EV screen of death. Probably it should be in service right after the heater malfunction but I tried to avoid the cost when dealing with no heat. I am not sure that heater is also used to warm the battery up in the...

If you knew it costed that much to fix, would you still buy the car at that price? Did you do your research and know about this very common issue on this car? Keep in mind that you have to fix it as some day this heater+DC-DC converter can trigger EV check screen of death and you can only tow...

I just got my car back. My bill was $4624 AFTER Toyota chipped in 30%. The parts quoted on mine were much higher than yours. I think you can expect/hope 30% sharing from Toyota. BTW, I did ask for this TSB 0111-14 and read the print out. Basically it's is ONLY covered in the basic warranty...

Thanks Tony. That explained it. It seems Toyota continued dumping the defective units and decided to deal with this issue later when customer ever experienced with this issue in 3-years/36K miles. At this time there is a hope that the replacement to be one time deal. Frankly, I overlooked...

Thanks Tony. Well, then what was the problem with my car? :) Bad original problem unit? as mine should be newer than your replacement as my car manufactured in Nov 2013. We are in California and hardly use this heater. LLN

It's odd that he acknowledged the defect but Toyota did not issue a recall on my car. Therefore they "thought" they fixed it with late 2013 version, but mine failed after 3 years and 36K miles. Has anyone got the replacement and it's still good after 3 years or 36K miles yet? Probably not. LLN

I got the final words from Toyota Customer Experience case manager Thorn and it's not covered by this service bulletin. Toyota offered 30% of the cost and I will be responsible for the rest $4300. The replacement part and labor is warranted for 12 months so any RAV4 EV owner can pay up to...

Top Ten List of problems with RAV4 EV / Pre-purchase List

This number is totally wrong for my RAV4 EV. It's 2013 at less than 40K miles. The cost to replace that heater core and DC to DC converter is ~$6200. Worse these 2 components caused the EV check system on and made the car to be a piece of junk. It is not just heater that you will have to...

Thanks Tony! I just asked my advisor about that. His answer was pretty standard that it should be covered in the diagnostics but I asked him kindly check it again. I did some search and there is no description on this TSB. I think I read somewhere that RAV4 EV got this problem on early 2012...

Yup, I thought 60K mile warranty on powertrain and 150K mile warranty on battery were all I need. Who knows this harmless heater can break entire car? I don't know if I can purchase extended warranty at this time. LLN

My 2013 RAV4 EV heater is out at 39,122 miles. I would have known it sooner if the cold weather came sooner, and now it's not covered with the estimate to be $6300 to fix this heater. I strongly advise every RAV4 EV owner to check on this frequently. It is not just the heater went out but my...
