Yet another 2013 Rav4EV on the market

If I sell mine it’ll be because insurance is too expensive

    Type2 charging issues

the most i charge at with that cord is 32A ever and 90% of the time im using the "slow" 110v charger with this car. (my Tesla uses the higher speed charger) but thanks for the caution...

    Fuel Bars Question

yes the GOM is wildly influenced by the last few drives youve had. Mine can read 60 at full scale or 85 depending on how ive driven the previous couple of times.

    Type2 charging issues

I had this exact problem -the rav4ev started not charging from public chargers and also from the evse that came with it. Interestingly it always charged from my Siemens evse at my house. I eventually solved the problem by buying a Jlong cable (which I needed for another reason) and found it...

    Removing low speed proximity sound

When mine was swapped by Toyota at 25k miles in 2016, the new one had steel bearings-Tony rebuilt it with ceramic ones in 2020 at 75k or so.

Tony-Test: How to Calculate Rated Range/Battery Degradation

This isnt particularly early. Ive probably only used JDEMO about 30-40 times on my vehicle. If you look at laptop batteries (same chemistry) they ALSO degrade somewhat similarly (actualy the Tesla batteries degrade less because of the cooling system). Also: at some point, Extended range...

Costco TPMS replacement... now ABS/anti-skid warning lights on

i never had my ABS light on when this was done. it did take about an hour of driving for the tire light to go out tho. ( and almost exactly 24 hrs.)

Tony-Test: How to Calculate Rated Range/Battery Degradation

ive noticed that my original battery (101k miles, in a 2013) has quite similar numbers, i think the last time i did a tony test it was right around 100 miles too. overall thats decent performance for an 11 yr old battery and 100k) the newer chemistries do better, im expecting under 20%...

Taking foot off the break pedal disables the vehicle.

i had mine done by QC Charge a few years ago and it was around that price. One issue is that its not obvious how much damage there is until the motor is out and disassembled. (mine ended up needing a replacement part which Tony had in the shop from a different motor that had been removed...

    Milling noise FIX

When Tony rebuilt my motor (about 5000 miles ago, this was the 2nd one, my original was replaced at 25K miles) he used ceramic bearings to replace the original steel ones. Allegedly this prevents the arcing that occurs with the steel ones which degrades them (had been degraded considerably on...

Check EV System warning came on today (frown)

i get that occasionally on mine too maybe once every fifty times i use it. i used to really worry about it but on one of my visits to menlo toyota they said it happens when theres a temporary loss of sync between the tesla and the toyota side of the car. ive ignored it since then when it...

Should we sell our 2012 RAV4EV, almost 90k miles ?

super easy to trailer one of these. I trailered mine down to San Diego (from northern california) twice to get it to Tony's shop. You just need a car trailer (or rent one).

Who still owns a RAV4 EV?

i love that aspect of them (the invisibility). When ive given people rides they sometimes say "wow, this has a really quiet engine".

    Battery Chiller

I remember talking to an older engineer who worked on the Toyota/Tesla integration of the vehicle (at a demo where they had one, i had just bought mine at the time). He said they took one to Death Valley and finally got the battery cooling circuit to work property but that he thought it was...

Who still owns a RAV4 EV?

Considering there were only ever 2400 of them, thats an impressive number.

Who still owns a RAV4 EV?

So i found another Rav4EV still in service... on Youtube. CalTrans apparently owns some, and there's one in the background of this story on ABC10 Sacramento (which is actually about Caltrans buying Teslas, but they have several existing electric cars they currently own in the lineup where the...

TPMS sensors replacement (for dead batteries, etc.)

I just had this done at America's Tire about 3 months ago, btw. They were able to replace the tire sensors with no problems and get it working again. Apparently the tire sensors normally last about 8-10 years. Since mine is a 2013, i got the "full" lifetime out of them. It was about...

Who still owns a RAV4 EV?

I have just over 100k miles on my 2013 blue one. The only weird thing about it is the charge inlet is flakey -it will no longer charge from most EVSE cables but if I plug in my jlong cable I can then plug any charger into that and it works fine

    Still going?

I just passed 100K miles on my Rav4EV and still use it several times a week. Now that im retired its mostly a grocery getter (I had Tony rebuild the motor a couple years ago with the new ceramic brushes and such so i expect it'll be going strong for awhile yet). I have owned it since it was new.

New California Corridor Fast Chargers Installed

I did see the Maxwell charger when stopping at the rest stop (i was surprised, i didnt know they had them this far north). I was northbound at the time. The charger is right in front of the enclosure for the restrooms. Theres only one of them (CHADemo & CCS). It appeared to be online but i...
