    Annual OpenEVSE Steampunk Contest

OpenEVSE would like to announce the first Annual Steampunk Charging Station Build Off. This contest was inspired by an OpenEVSE builder Alex who built a Charging Station around a piece of Telephone test equipment from the 1960s. His project includes a working current meter and LEDs. More info on...

You might need a tank, there is so much plastic and resin in the UMC it may be tough to break... Too bad the electronics are not quite as robust...

It was pretty easy driving up....but when coming down the enclosure launched 20 feet or so up the street. It survived that too with a few scratches on the bottom where it launched/slid...

Both OpenEVSE enclosures (diecast alunimum and Poly) are in a strain lab. They will be tested to distruction with a fixture that simulates a tire at 10,000 and maybe 20,000 lbs. I will have a full report and photos in a couple days. If you have a Frito-Lay truck, bring it over. I will let you...

    JuiceBox Enhancements

Actually 4 out of 5. NickS built "Hydra" it is based on OpenEVSE and splits 1 input to 2 vehicles. Number 5 is not likely to ever happen for a kit product. NRTLs will only certify a complete product not anything at the component level.

The answer is yes for the Poly... I will test the Aluminum later this weekend. I ran it over with a 2012 Nissan Leaf several times length wise, across the width, forward and backward. There wan no permanent damage, just a little dirt on the enclosure and the button seal squeezed out (with no...

I would put my money on the Poly. I will run over both types tomorrow. The die-cast aluminium alloy used on the Hammond Manufacturing Enclosures is inexpensive and easy to machine but a bit brittle and quite thin on the sides. The Poly Material is VERY strong and the enclosure design is...

No offence taken. It's hard to tell from pictures but there is a pretty big differance in size. The OpenEV enclosure has about half the volume as the EMW enclosure (120 vs 231 cubic inches). The OpenEV controller also 1/4 the size as the JB controller. 6 OpenEV boards fit in the same footprint...

Thnak you, many hours were spent designing every aspect of the enclosures. I personally do not think there are any similarities at all to the EMW design... The OpenEV enclosure has a button and 16 x 2 Liquid Crystal Display. You can see the state, settings and current (with optional coil)...

I just received 100 new poly-carbonate enclosures today. They are slightly larger than the basic model and have a cutout for a LCD and button. The enclosure comes with watertight seals and graphics are full color. The internal panel is pre-drilled for 30A components, but there is a lot of space...

    OpenEVSE Remote API

OpenEVSE firmware version 3.0 and above introduced a new Remote API. The RAPI is a simple bi-directional communication protocol, which allows OpenEVSE to communicate with just about anything without any modifications to the OpenEVSE source code. OpenEVSE builders have implemented WiFi...

OpenEVSE Plus v3 http://store.openevse.com/collections/openevse/products/copy-of-openevse-plus-v3 is out. It is a board for Level 2 charging stations. It adds a opto-isolated line voltage AC relay trigger to drive large contactors. It also adds current measurement. To go along with the new...
