ALL POSTS - motor whine or "HUM" (Milling Sound)

Thanks for the info. Tony indeed knew the drill. Unfortunately my whine was deemed not loud enough, "the replacement motors are louder than yours". Also they couldn't get my 'clunk' either, so came out empty handed. Tony only charged me for one diagnostic fee instead of two (which he initially...

ALL POSTS - motor whine or "HUM" (Milling Sound)

I'm at 59,500 miles and the whine is present but still not too annoying. I hear it mostly above 40mph. I'm going to take it in to Tony A. at Palo Alto see if I can get it replaced while still under the 60K drive train warranty. Is there any particular advice anyone has for exactly how to frame...

    Check EV System warning message

I know. Surprised to have gotten that from Palo Alto.

    Check EV System warning message

A bit more color from Tony when I picked it up: the technician advised against using B mode on long downhills when charge > ~70 miles because it can't use the power to charge efficiently. Technician thinks the problem I had was the battery overheating and that the ECU failure was separate or...

    Check EV System warning message

Reporting back on this. Tony at Palo Alto said it was the "Tesla gateway ECU" failed. They got a replacement from Tesla same day(!!) and replaced it. No charge as under the 60,000 mile warranty.

    Check EV System warning message

Thanks. I do have the extended warranty, so its just the hassle factor. I will probably it in to Palo Alto tomorrow to have them read the codes.

    Check EV System warning message

Today I was going down steep hill near our house in B mode, outside air temp about 73. At the bottom of the hill it flipped into turtle mode, charge went to 0 bars, and the Check EV System warning light came on. Pulled into nearby lot. I power cycled multiple times with no joy, but after about...

Onboard charger fail after tire repair use

So I have the car back. The work order states "Replaced onboard charger, refilled & bled cooling system...". There was also service items for both the G-48 coolant and "super long life cool". I wonder if this amounts to a complete coolant replacement that satisfies the 50K maintenance...

Onboard charger fail after tire repair use

Well the Tesla summer intern must have finally found the charger in the parts bins and they shipped it to Toyota today (either that or my frustrated tweet to Musk paid off). Will almost be a full 2 weeks. Toyota did not render judgement on the cause. I understand the air pump runs off the 12V...

Onboard charger fail after tire repair use

Palo Alto Toyota diagnosed the charger issue a week ago and Tesla still hasn't gotten around to sending a new unit. I'm guessing they have a part time summer intern handling RAV4EV parts, but its getting ridiculous. Toyota seems quite frustrated as well.

Onboard charger fail after tire repair use

The difference is that I have used the tire pump once in 1,000 days of ownership and the charger failed that same day. I have done the other things you mention every day. If the odds of each vehicle event happening are one in 1000 per day the odds they happen the same day are one in a million...

Onboard charger fail after tire repair use

Thanks for the suggestion Tony. I had it towed to Palo Alto and they diagnosed a bad onboard charger. A replacement has been requested from Tesla, estimated for Tuesday arrival. Someone must be walking it over from Fremont. We can't get that Hyperloop built fast enough it seems. Interesting...

Onboard charger fail after tire repair use

Well thanks, that doesn't sound good but glad I bought the warranty. I usually go to Toyota Sunnyvale but reading through the forum it seems people really like Palo Alto for troubleshooting of the more complex stuff. Is that still true? Any recent experiences?

Onboard charger fail after tire repair use

I also disconnected the battery to reboot the system, but still no joy.

Onboard charger fail after tire repair use

Thank you Tony for the suggestion. I swapped that fuse out and also inspected all the other fuses that are related to the charger and power system and still no joy. The charging light flashes about 5 times and then it cuts out.

Onboard charger fail after tire repair use

So it was not the 12V battery causing the problem. I also checked with a 2nd charger, its definitely the car not wanting to charge. It charges for about 15 seconds and shuts off. I'm going to have to have it towed to Toyota Sunnyvale on Monday it looks like.

Onboard charger fail after tire repair use

Good thought. I replaced it a couple of months ago but it likely didn't charge back up after the repair. I'll put it on my charger. Thanks.

Onboard charger fail after tire repair use

So on my way home from work yesterday I got a flat on the freeway (from a nail it turns out) that progressed rapidly. I pulled off and used the tire repair kit for the first time, following the instructions exactly. The repair itself worked fine. However the very next charge last night failed...

The last new Rav4 EV, #3538?

Total newbie question but I'm flummoxed. A day or two ago (when I didn't have time to act on it) I found a topic in this forum along the lines of "ten things to do when you first take delivery of the car". For the life of me I can't find that post again. Anyone know where that is? It was things...

The last new Rav4 EV, #3538?

Well the top line was negotiable as were some of the specific charges (e.g., security deposit). Having the contract someone posted in hand turned out to be a huge help, saved a few $K.
