I got it done a week ago as an out-of-stater... So far so good! Hopefully this really fixes all the check EV system errors!

Ok so Toyota wants to wait until next month to install the ECU because they said a "new" firmware update is coming out next month. I'm guessing this is the one that "fixes" the recall? I'm ok for now with no recurrences of the check EV light, but if it comes back I might push for a sooner...

Sounds like the Gateway ECU is already at the local dealer--seems to be a lot quicker than what most people experienced! Now all I need to do is coordinate when the corporate field engineer can make it out. More to come.

Sounds like they are ordering me a new Gateway ECU and doing a firmware update (I had .79). They said it will take a couple of weeks.

I'm keeping the car but I'm only really putting 11-12k on it a year so 100,000 should be fine. I signed the form and sent it in. I just want a little extra piece of mind, especially as an out of stater. Thanks for all the tips everyone!

So can anyone get something in writing about this 8 yr / 80,000 mile warranty from corporate? I was about to pull the trigger on the 8 yr/100,000 mi Platinum VSC but it looks like I'd be buying that big expensive warranty just for the heater and maybe the 12V Aux power system. Might drop $1100...

I spoke with Steve at Poway today and he quoted me $300 more than the prices listed above even after mentioning Tony's name ($1340 for 8 yr, 100,000)... did I do something wrong or did prices go up? I'll try calling around.

Airton, How did you coorindate this? Did you contact Kevin first to set it up or did you go to your local dealer and ask for your "scheduled mx" and then go back and forth with Kevin after the local dealer opened a "case" for you? I was under the impression you couldn't really talk to Kevin...

So, update, I did eventually get the other half of my firmware update (a few weeks later) and now have the .79 ECU upgrade. I opened a case with the 1-800 number, got referred to the EV specialist Kevin. We initially spoke and he explained again how the car is not supposed to leave California...

Careful or you will end up with "half" a firmware update like me... And as soon as they call corporate or region for support they'll be told not to touch your car and that's the end of your "free" tire rotations.
