For those looking for an extended warranty the 4th of july is unlocking some good deals. I would suggest calling a few of your local toyota dealers and ask them to beat or at least price match Ray's current offer.

Toyota Platinum 8/125,000 zero deductible
Exciting Gilroy Toyota $1,905 (1,805+$100 Document proccessing Fee) by Ray

I suggest calling your dealers or better yet coming in on the 4th of july (Tomorrow) and asking the Finance manager to beat Ray's offer of 1,805 don't mention the document fee. I called several dealers and just a few either price matched or beat the price... but only because 4th of july is tomorrow.

I would highly suggest to call around or visit around (If you can) to get the best warranty available at a cheaper price before prices go up again!

THINGS TO ASK FOR IN THIS ORDER:

Can you beat this quote?

Can you Price Match this quote? <- skip if they beat it.

Are there any inspection fees for my vehicle?

Are there any dealer fees like documenting, registration, filing, etc.

Any other fees on top of the quoted warranty price?

Be careful with inspection fees. I have been told they can be $150/hr and usually take one hour. Also document fees and registration or filling can add up cost to the warranty. Be sure to ask for the 8yr/125k with zero deductible platinum warranty.

Don't miss the 4th of july to grab a deal!

I made a list around the 4th of july by calling a few dealers around. You guys could use this as a guideline on what is possible if you call certain dealers in the LA county area. Took me a few days but I think it will be worth it if other people use it. I started with the most popular price right now which is:

Toyota Platinum 8/125,000
Exciting Gilroy Toyota $1,905 (1,805+$100 Document processing Fee) by Ray

You'd be surprised at what you can find if you call around. Prices are better when a holiday comes around so if you can call on or before that day.

On August 1, 2016, Toyota raised the prices on the extended warranties. They also added a couple of new ones: 9 year/125K miles and 10 year/125K. There may also be variations with less miles. I contacted Sunnyvale Toyota based on suggestions above and they gave me the information on the new warranties. It was tough to get them to call me back... usually a week or more each time. I tried calling different days and times and asking for different "Finance Managers". After a more than a week without a call back (my last three messages said I had a credit card in my hand waiting to order), I decided to ask my local dealer, Freeman Toyota in Santa Rosa, when I took my RAV in for the recalls. Jessica McDivitt (707-535-2324) was very helpful and agreed to match the price I got from Sunnyvale ($2455 for the 10 year/125K Platinum). As a side note, Jessica drives a Leaf EV.

I spoke with Troy Dietrich from Greenfield toyota and he quoted me 9 yr / 125K plan is $1665.00, and the 10 yr / 125K plan would be $1795.00.

That includes everything ?
No dealer fees like documenting, registration, filing, etc. extra ?

I was told that effective August 1st, Toyota changed the rules on warranties. You have to have an in-state address to put on the warranty when you purchase it. I don't know the details beyond that. I was told by one dealer that the reason was a rash of out-of-state purchases to get the lowest price from states that had lower payroll costs and thus the warranty cost to the out-of-state dealer was less. I don't know how true that is, but be sure to ask about the in-state address thing if you are talking to dealers outside the state you live in.

I will have to ask and see if there are any extra fees on top of the warranty itself

I received a reply The quoted prices are for the total cost. There’s no tax or any other additional fees. So the prices Mr. Troy offers are the total cost for the extended warranties. Here are the prices for the other warranties for the rav4 ev

Does anyone here have any experience with a third party, "used car" warranty?

I spoke with one company who quoted me $1900 for a 5 year/65,000 mile warranty(starting at date of warranty purchase) covering everything except the battery(which is still covered by Toyota). For an extra $30 they'll include a "covered part causes non-covered part failure" warranty, which would cover a situation where the heater fails and takes out the DC/DC inverter.

I'm looking at purchasing a 2013 RAV4 EV, but given that they are all beyond the 36/36,000 standard warranty and any extended warranty that may have been purchased from Toyota is cancelled before the car is auctioned, this seems to be the only viable option. Any info is appreciated.

Did you actually ask a Toyota salesperson if you could buy the warranty (after the car is inspected by a dealer, since its over 36,000 / 3yr)?

I spoke with someone at Toyota Financial, they said it's not possible to buy a warranty from them after 3/36k. I called back again just now to double check. Got the same response.

Glad to know I'm not the only person running into this confusion. I've found a private seller with a 2013 that I'd love to buy, but I've been told (by David Proctor at Putnam Toyota) that they cannot sell me a warranty unless I bought it from them.

Additionally, I've spoken with a dealer (Mercedes Benz of Walnut Creek) and was told they will sell me a warranty that is identical to the Toyota Extended Warranty, but I'm highly dubious of paying for a warranty not sold to me by Toyota.

If anyone knows a way to obtain a Toyota warranty on a privately sold car, I'd love to know!

If the car already has a Toyota extended warranty, it can be transferred one time between individuals.

Also, Toyota dealers can sell a "Used Car" extended warranty if it is purchased at the same time with the vehicle. Those warranties measure time and mileage from the time of purchase. The "New Car" warranty measures time and mileage from the first sale.

Just got my 8 yr / 125K Toyota Extra Care, Platinum coverage with $0 deductible for $1505.00 from Mr. Troy at Greenfield Toyota. I have to say it was pain free and there were no other fees slapped on top. The price listed for the extended warranty is all you pay for. Plus I applied with him for the Toyota Credit Card and got 0% APR for 6 months to pay off my warranty :). To boot the CC comes with a point reward system that (Among other categories) gives 5 points for every $1 spent at Toyota dealerships. 1505/5=301 points for the warranty purchase which gives me a $3.01 discount as statement credit :p. The nicer bit is that if you spend $500 on other purchase in the first 3 months you get 5,000 bonus points which, I think, equals to $50 statement credit. So nice discounts on an already discounted warranty making the cost for the extended warranty $1,452. Someone in my family also applied and got approved for the Toyota Rewards Credit Card so it seems we will have an extra $50 on top of everything else. $1,402 is not a bad price for the warranty!

I'll leave the prices here and they also include the new 2 extended warranties available 9yr/125k and 10yr/125k

Toyota Extra Care, Platinum coverage with $0 deductible:
4 yr / 100K - $675.00
5 yr / 125K - $915.00
6 yr / 75K - $645.00

6 yr / 125K - $1140.00
7 yr / 75K - $715.00
7 yr / 100K - $1025.00
7 yr / 125K - $1250.00
8 yr / 75K - $835.00
8 yr / 100K - $1145.00
8 yr / 125K - $1505.00
9 yr / 125K - $1665.00
10 yr / 125K - $1795.00.

There seems to be plenty of confusion out there. Some time back when I was calling around, a Washington dealer said he could sell me a "Used car warranty" as long as the dealership did the inspection. He didn't seem to care where the car came from. The terms weren't as good as a new car warranty there did not seem to be any problem with getting one.

Okay, joining the club here, just two weeks ahead of the end of my lease. Bought the 8yr/100K mile Toyota Platinum VSA from Ray Alcazar at Gilroy Toyota today for $1545. I'm currently just under 28K miles and have yet to have to replace any components.

As others have said, Ray is very easy going and very easy to get it done over the phone. And I didn't want to mess around with trying to buy it from an out-of-state dealer.

I guess I should have grabbed it earlier this year though when it was available for $1245. Ray wasn't able to say if it might go up again in the next year. My girlfriend also has a RAV4 EV but her lease has another year on it and we both have Tesla Model 3's reserved so I've suggested she wait until late next year to decide what she wants to do with the RAV4.

Just paid $1805 for 8/125k zero deductible from Toby at Toyota of Poway. This car was bought in 8/2014, and has been largely trouble free with 35,800 miles. Only one motor replacement.

So, we're good through 8/2022, assuming the annual miles go down a bit.

So can I get an extended warranty for a used Rav4 if it is over 36k miles and not coming off lease? I bought a used 2013 with 65K miles and my current Toyota dealership only offered 3-year/36k mile platinum warranty. I'd rather have a longer term and mileage based on my commute which is about 2,000 miles per month.
