Is there a way to charge while driving?

Does anyone know a way to charge the battery while driving?

The charger is disabled when the car is turned on. Is there a way to keep it active.

Then I could charge the car for extended range travel.

I coukd then charge the batteries with a extra set of batteries

Or a generator, which I could tow as a trailer possibly fueled by biodiesel.

Wow... that's a cool little trailer! I have wondered about the same thing... charging from a small generator while driving but as the OP mentions... plugging in a charge cord disables the car... or the other way around, driving the car disables the charger.

I think I saw somewhere on MNL that Phil... aka Ingineer has played with this sort of thing with a 30 kw micro-turbine?

Phil's LEAF trailer outputs DC directly to the battery / inverter. It completely bypasses the onboard charging system.

It's almost undoubtedly greener, so to speak, to just rent a modern gasoline vehicle for long journeys. Trailers will use motorcycle engines (as in the link) or home appliance-grade generators. Both of those motors are much dirtier than a CARB-compliant automobile.
