There's at least 2 Rav4 EVs in Canada! Copied from a Green Car Report article:

Here's how the Canadian vehicle registrations break down for plug-in vehicles during the first five months of 2013:

1. Chevy Volt - 317
2. Tesla Model S - 281
3. Nissan Leaf - 240
4. Toyota Prius Plug-in - 130 (calculated from Toyota monthly sales reports; vehicle registration data does not distinguish between Prius Liftback and Plug-In models)
5. Mitsubishi i-MiEV - 73
6. Ford Focus Electric - 47
7. Smart ForTwo Electric - 46
8. Fisker Karma - 5
9. Toyota RAV4 EV - 2
10. Ford C-Max Energi & Fusion Energi - unknown (neither Ford nor vehicle registration figures distinguish between Hybrid and Energi models)

In the first post of this thread, Tony added these two to the total sales. However, the figures above came from registrations not sales. It is possible that the two RAV4 EVs registered in Canada were purchased in California and have already been reported in the TMS USA sales figures. Then again, they could have been diverted from the Canadian factory and registered. I don't see how an outsider could find out for sure. Of course, 2 units hardly matters.

I now know the owner of one of the two in the Great White North, and he did import it from California. So, I will eliminate the two Canada sales.

I'm betting 99 for August!

When I went to a Toyota dealership last week to turn in my leased Prius we started talking Rav4EV. The lease specialist, who seemed like he was a very experienced Toyota car guy, said our Rav4ev will be a collectors item. Guess that's in line with low volume sales and no interest in making more in the future.

Now that they moved to a Lease Promotion compliance sales model, it will depend on whether Toyota lets them out on the used market at lease end to determine how rare they will be. I assume July and August are substantially all lease deals. So, that leaves between 500 and 600 cars privately owned at this point.

Has anyone bought out their lease deal? Perhaps, Toyota will crush all the RAV4 EVs when the lease is up. That would be easier than trying to support repairs and replacement parts for all those.

Wait - is the purchase option at lease end at Toyotas choice, or the drivers choice? I wanted to purchase, but the lease numbers make so much sense, I was going to do that, but I do want to be absolutely positive that I can purchase the vehicle at the end of the lease -

Yes you can purchase it, although I don't see why you would want to. After 3 years, there will be better technology out there. It will be a better investment to purchase the latest and greatest than buy into a 3 year old battery. The residual value is around $20K. That could be another three year lease on newer technology.

Well, I'll definitelly be hoping there will be better technology in a few years - and I would hope to replace my pick-up, or maybe get a nice convertible ev. But I also know that there are a number of 1st gen Rav evs running around, and I really hope we'll get 10+ years out of this one just as easily -

They seem to be tweaking the incentives in such a way as to get the 150/month they need to sell out "just in time". You can see that when they started with the big incentives in January/February they got a bump, then things lagged when they were removed, then the big incentives came and you see a huge jump in sales, and now they've adjusted again through the end of November, and I think they will probably get pretty close to the needed rate of sales with this incentive and it will probably stay until they are gone.

I know the RAV4 EV is the same for all three model years, but was curious as to what the last serial number is assigned to the 2012 year. The highest serial number 2012 I've seen on the forum is 1542.

So at that rate the sale of 2600 vehicles runs well into 2016 so we can expect some better deals in the future. If anyone at Toyota reads this, I'll lease one if the September pricing comes back, otherwise it will be too late.

So, I guess I win the informal pool. Although I had a big range of 50-100, and I thought it would be closer to 50 than 100, but still within my range. I agree with others. If they don't lower the price, the number of cars sold will continue to drop. At Costco on Coleman Ave in San Jose, regular gas was down to $3.37/gallon. I was surprised it was that low. Even premium was only $3.57/gallon. So, that will put additional pressure on the negative sentiment towards EV's. The next few months will definitely be interesting with more new players entering the fray. I am sure many people will want to buy the i3 just because it is a BMW, and unless the market grows, they will just be stealing sales from some other EV model.

We might be off by 100 on the total sold. Adding up the numbers sold for each month at the top of the post gives 1198.

I'm not certain if cars sold that don't need to be registered formally are being figured in here such as cars sold to municipalities.

The last and final 2013 out of the plant is (one of) mine here at #2309. Pearl white.

The lowest #2014 ends 2311. The highest 2014 vin# yet is 2381 (blue) - also mine.

I live in MD. A reciprocal carb state. After that letter from corporate stating they would even deny Toyota care if you don't get to an EV dealer. WOW. Just WOW.
