If you want to use the 40 amp Tesla UMC with your Rav4 EV, you buy the Tesla Model S UMC, and also buy the Tucson EV 70 amp J1772 plug.

Then, send them to me and I will assemble, test and return the unit. No warranty expressed or implied. $200 each, with 10 units total (basically, I'm going to buy the machine to do it with the money). List your name below so that when we have ten, we can do it:)[/quote]

Ordered the Tesla UMC. Thinking of getting this 70A plug for $120:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/70-Amp-J1772-Plug-/261236455153?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cd2e7f6f1

Before I pull the trigger... I'm assuming this will work? If so, I'll order and probably add my name to the list.

Please don't get that one... it is an older version of the new one that you can buy here for $155:

http://tucsonev.com/

This one should have a "chrome" disconnect button; otherwise, it looks the same.

Here are the choices from Tesla for UMC plugs:

Most outlets are either standard 110 volt outlets or higher powered 240 volt outlets. Higher powered outlets charge between four and six times faster than standard household outlets. If you plan to install an outlet in your garage, we recommend a NEMA 14-50 240 volt outlet.

...................................VOLTS / AMPS.....kW....MILES PER HOUR OF CHARGE
NEMA 5-15 ........Standard Outlet 110 V / 12 A 1.4 kW 5
NEMA 14-50......RVs and Campsites 240 V / 40 A 10 kW 31
NEMA 6-50 ........Welding Equipment 240 V / 40 A 10 kW 31
NEMA 10-30......Older Dryers 240 V / 24 A 5.8 kW 18
NEMA 14-30......Newer Dryers 240 V / 24 A 5.8 kW 18

I've ordered the $120 from ebay already. Unless you can't properly crimp that one, I'm assuming it's ok for you to do?!?

I'll do it... just not ideal.

OK, thanks Tony. Appreciate that you are willing to do non-ideal or non-std options! I hope it won't end up to be too much extra work.

Here ya go, the second modified J1772 UMC shipped today with new LED light to help you at night!! This is not my original idea (thanks Phil S.) but I like it:

I just ordered both pieces to avoid any backorder issues. If we don't get to 10 in a few months, I'm also willing to pay a premium. Now I have to learn about RV parks so I can get any other jumpers I may need to get a full set.

Tony, do you have a link to one of your posts that lists where to get the most useful addaptors?

To anybody on the fence, if you buy this product and don't like it, I suspect it will be easy to sell to 2600 other Rav4 EV drivers in the future. Obviously, it will still work with any Tesla product with an readily available adapter.

For folks with both Rav4 EV and Model S, this is the best combination that can be used on both cars.

I don't have a list of useful non-Tesla adaptors for this combination. What we need is a way to manage the amps before we start putting non-Tesla adaptors on. Yes, I'm working on that.

So far, the Tesla adaptors are:

...................................VOLTS / AMPS.....kW
NEMA 5-15 ........Standard Outlet 110 V / 12 A... 1.4 kW
NEMA 14-50......RVs and Campsites 240 V / 40 A... 10 kW
NEMA 6-50 ........Welding Equipment 240 V / 40 A... 10 kW
NEMA 10-30......Older Dryers 240 V / 24 A... 5.8 kW
NEMA 14-30......Newer Dryers 240 V / 24 A... 5.8 kW

I have one and I love it. You get to charge your Rav at the maximum 220/240 outlets you find (which is usually 40amp max). I never regret to have one. Tony, if you are short on getting people to sign up please add me to your list. After adding me, you would only have two more to go.

Ok, we're a launch for the J1772 conversion.

Buy the Model S UMC and the www.TucsonEV.com 70 amp J1772 for $155.

Ship it to:

Anthony Williams
12656 Sabre View Cove
San Diego, CA 92128-4160

with a check for $200, plus whatever the return postage is.

The turn around will be a few weeks, since we are doing a group of 10.

I haven't received the UMC from Tesla yet. Got the J1772 tho...

Will check with Tesla today...

BTW, you prefer a check or paypal (if you have paypal setup)?
